The Western Cape Education Department says 98 teachers have tested positive for the coronavirus.
But it says the teachers didn’t contract the virus inside the school premises.
The schools in the province were reopened on Monday the 1st of June.
The department admits that there’s been low attendance last week since Grade 12s and 7s returned to classrooms.
Authorities say 20 schools are currently closed after coronavirus cases were reported.
Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday, Education MEC, Debbie Schafer, said that they can’t disclose the names of the schools because they want to protect those affected.
