The number of people who succumbed to Covid-19 in South Africa has surpassed the 14,000 mark.

Another 47 people were confirmed dead due to the virus on Sunday, bringing the national death toll to 14,028.

Gauteng recorded the highest number of deaths with 16.

It’s followed by Mpumalanga with 11, the Eastern Cape with 7, the Western Cape with 7, the Free State with 3 and KwaZulu Natal with 3.

The Health Department says more than 2,500 new infections were confirmed over the past 24 hour cycle.

The cumulative number of confirmed cases now stand at 625 056.

But the country’s recoveries is at 538 604, which is the recovery rate of 86%.

This means there’re 72,424 active cases in South Africa.
