Aletta the former Grassy Park High School teacher retired in 2015 and then started offering reading classes to children she found on the streets, hoping they would learn life skills. She also runs a library and soup kitchen from her home which are open to adults and children. She has committed herself to her community. She educates the community and loves to do so by having an outdoor classroom where she can reach all the kids.
She encourages a culture of reading in her community, which is plagued by crime, drug abuse and gangsterism. Her soup kitchen and library survives on donations she gets from the public. Her dream is to open a school where the less fortunate can attend without worrying about paying fees.
