There are concerns about the impact the ongoing Transnet strike could have on the economy.

Premier Alan Winde says the financial implications are huge.

He says South Africa’s economy’s losing roughly R1 billion a day.

Winde says this is particularly concerning as the country is still overcoming the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Provincially, the ongoing strike poses a direct risk -to the Western Cape’s agriculture sector – which is heavily export-driven.

“We cannot bring further destruction to our economy with major strikes like this. We need to make sure that we find resolution as quickly as possible and I ask all parties to really hard at making sure we find that resolution.”– Alan Winde, Western Cape Premier
