Service delivery, ailing municipalities and the devolution of critical competencies.

At least one political commentator believes these will be some of the key points to come out of Premier Alan Winde’s Opening of the Provincial Parliament Address on Wednesday.

Winde will be outlining the objectives of the 7th provincial administration, off the back of another dominant display in the May elections.

The address will kick off at the Provincial Legislature on Wale Street at 10h45.

Political analyst, Daniel Silke, says it’ll be interesting to see how the province integrates with the policies of the GNU.

Gang violence, and crime in general, remain a big worry for provincial authorities.

Winde had raised a few eyebrows when he named Anroux Marais as the new political head of Community Safety and Police Oversight.

Opposition parties have criticised Winde for that, saying she’s not suited for this volatile portfolio.

But Silke says that, likely, holds no significance.
