The ANC in the Western Cape says the provincial budget continues to ignore the reality of poverty and inequality in the province.

This follows the finance MEC David Maynier’s budget speech on Monday.

The ANC’s Nomi Nkondlo, says the budget perpetuates the historic legacy of the have’s and have not’s – and the racial implications thereof.

She suggests that this is evidenced by the MEC’s further delay on rebuilding the G F Jooste Hospital in Manenberg.

Nkondlo also criticised the MEC’s lack of a targeted approach to managing the informal sector.

“The Western Cape Government is refusing to deal with the issue of informal sector, because as we see their pitch in as far as the budget concern is aimed at big businesses and international investors”.
