The ANC in the Western Cape says it supports the contentious step aside policy.

The comments come, as the party’s national policy conference gets underway in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Some provinces have called for the resolution to be reviewed, or even scrapped.

That call is expected to be the major part of the discussions at the conference over the next few days.

The ANC in the province, says that during the consultative processes with local branches, no objections were raised about it.

The party’s head of policy here Nomi Nkondlo says there’s nothing wrong with the rule.

“So this is the policy that we still stand firm in supporting it until the elective conference, where all our policies get to be reviewed. And ours, is that the step aside, like other instruments, are there to ensure that those who choose to be members of the ANC voluntarily, get to be subjected to the discipline of the ANC”.
