At least one economist is guarding against the Western Cape government’s attempts at lobbying for more money from National Treasury.
During his Opening of the Provincial Parliament Address, in July, Premier Alan Winde asserted the need for fiscal stability, and that the province should get a bigger piece of the financial pie.
The argument by Winde and Finance MEC, Deidre Baartman, is that because the Western Cape is the third most populous province, it should be granted a bigger percentage of the Treasury’s budget.
They’re also questioning the national census statistics…
