The Vrygrond community is living in fear after several people were gunned down in the Muizenberg suburb over the weekend.

That’s according to the Muizenberg Community Policing Forum’s Derrick Muller.

The spate of shooting incidents in the area emanates from violence between gangs and taxi operators.

Seven people were shot and killed over the weekend, and two young people were wounded.

Muller says the attacks are linked to the taxi industry.

“The violence is between the taxi associations there in Capricorn and Vrygrond as well the gang, the Junky Funky Kids. That’s where it’s a tit for tat situation. It became extremely volatile over the weekend”.

After police initiated a 72-hour activation plan on Monday, three people were brought in for questioning.

Four other suspects were apprehended after being caught with firearms in close proximity to where the shootings occurred.

Muller has expressed his appreciation for the deployment of  law enforcement agencies.

“I take my hat off for to the SAPS, Law Enforcement, and Anti-Gang Unit, all of them for their sterling work. It’s calm for now. Yes, they are still there”.
