Five people, including four energy contractors and a staffer, remain in hospital for injuries they sustained after a vandalised power cable exploded.
The City of Cape Town says workers were repairing the vandalised substation in Gugulethu, when the incident occurred last Monday.
A member of the public was also injured.
The explosion also resulted in a large power outage between Gugulethu and Manenberg.
Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Beverley van Reenen, says the repairs have since been completed.
The City is offering a R5000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and successful conviction of the vandals and thieves.
“This shows the absolutely devastating consequences of vandalism, theft and illegal connections. The City calls members of the public to come forward with any information on this incident. We condemn the extreme pain and suffering that has been caused from this incidence of vandalism.” – Councillor Beverley van Reenen, Mayoral Committee Member for Energy
