The University of Cape Town has refuted reports of insurance payout delays for the Jagger Library.

This is after the institution’s Council made a provision for internal funding to cover the costs related to last year’s fire.

UCT has confirmed that it has already received more than R100 million from its insurers as part of interim payments.

The process of determining the loss of the library’s material is yet to be finalised.

Spokesperson Elijah Moholola says the claim process isn’t easy at all.

“UCT has consulted local and international universities and public libraries who have previously dealt with claims relating to library material. The information from these parties has assisted in the insurance claims preparation process.”
