The Western Cape Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has arrested two people in connection with this past weekend’s mass murder in Khayelitsha.

Four people were shot and killed in Site B.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut says the victims were murdered in what’s believed to be a relation attack following a hijacking incident that happened earlier.

“On 2023-03-26 at around 00:40 four men aged between 33 and 42 were shot and killed while they were travelling in a LDV in Y Block Khayelitsha in what we believe was an retaliation attack after accusations of a hijacking that was committed earlier in the area. During the incident, five other males aged between 23 and 39 were shot and wounded and admitted to hospital for treatment”.

Traut says the suspects will be charged with four counts of murder and five charges of attempted murder.

“One of the victims who was injured during the mass shooting was also arrested in hospital for the hijacking case. Once charged, the detained suspects are expected to make their court appearances in Khayelitsha where two will face four charges of murder, five charges of attempted murder and the possession of unlicensed firearms while the third suspect will face a charge of vehicle hijacking”.
