Two young men have been arrested for the murder of a four-year-old girl in Uitsig, Ravensmead.
The child was caught in the crossfire of a suspected gang shooting on Wednesday.
Two other teens were killed in a separate shooting in Uitsig the night before.
Western Cape police’s Andre Traut says “Operation Combat members and detectives embarked on a tracing operation overnight to apprehend those responsible. [Thursday] morning at 4:30, [officers] arrested two suspects both aged 21 on a murder charge.
The suspects will appear in court soon,” adds Traut.
Police say they’ve deployed more officers to areas including Ravensmead ”to quell incidents of violence”.
Another young man from Manenberg has been arrested for carrying an illegal gun.
Gang shootings in the suburb have been on the rise recently.
The Cape Town Metro Police’s Ruth Solomons says this is the third firearm confiscated in Manenberg since Sunday.
“[Officers] searched a 23-year-old male and found in his possession a .38 special Smith & Wesson revolver with its serial number filed off.
The suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and detained at SAPS Manenberg,” says Solomon.
