The Western Cape Health and Wellness Department has confirmed that two EMS officials have died in an accident near Ceres.

It’s understood that the ambulance they’re travelling in collided with a truck on the R43 on Sunday.

Mario Vergotine and Thami Magalakanqa were declared on the scene.

The department’s Sandra Maritz says no patients were being transported at the time of the accident.

“Western Cape Government Health is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of two EMS officers in a collision on the Ceres/Wolseley road. We extend our deepest sympathy to their loved ones, family, friends, and colleagues. We can confirm that the ambulance was not transporting a patient at the time of the accident”.

Meanwhile, Premier Alan Winde and Health and Wellness MEC, Nomafrench Mbombo, will meet with the deceased’s family and colleagues at the EMS office in Witzenberg on Monday.
