It may be taking place under a cloud of frustration, but the Tweede Nuwe Jaar parade is taking place today, as scheduled.

Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line Greenpoint’s Somerset Road.

They’ll march to Cape Town Stadium, where the throupes (TROOPS) are competing.

The parade is organised by the Kaapse Klopse Karnivaal Association.

But this is hot air for those who are dead set against today’s parade.

Historically, The Tweede Nuwe Jaar celebration spans District Six to Bo-Kaap, and is held on or as close to the 2nd of January as possible.

There’s opposition to this year’s route and date change.
