Three people have been arrested for allegedly trying to invade completed houses in Vredendal.
On Wednesday, a group of people attempted to occupy units, saying they need homes.
The contractor responsible for the development has appointed a security company to prevent any vandalism or illegal occupation of vacant units.
Human Settlements MEC, Tertuis Simmers, says they condemn the actions of the people.
“The Provincial Department of Human Settlements has been engaging with the Matzikama Municipality, where some community members have threatened to invade completed housing units in Vredendal. The Matzikama Municipality is engaging with the local community, and is continuing with the allocation of housing units qualifying beneficiaries in terms of the housing waiting list.”
