The truck driver who was involved in an early Tuesday morning accident on the N1 is said to be in a serious condition in hospital.
Traffic officers tell us that the driver lost control and smashed into the centre island barrier underneath the Lower Church bridge near the Woodstock turn off around 5 am.
He was flung from the front of the truck.
The highway had to be closed for some time, causing a massive traffic headache for Capetonians.
But provincial Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa says the N1 is back open and things are meant to be free-flowing again.
