It’s not possible for Eskom to fix the energy crisis.

Instead, new electricity generation options should be sought out.

That’s the opinion of The Green Connection.

According to the organisation’s Liz McDaid, the country is stuck with outdated energy plans, which are reliant on carbon-emitting fossil fuels.

She says it is time for South Africa, and Energy Minster Gwede Mantashe, to make the transition to renewable energy.

“The minister can get up out of bed and actually sign a section 34 determination to bring more renewable energy online, that’s the first step. He can also see that need for an integrated energy plan and that should be happening also as fast as possible.”

McDaid added that the Integrated Energy Plan is a core part of the transition to sustainable energy, and has called for President Cyril Ramaphosa to enact it.
