The City says there’s been no need to evacuate anyone or provide for emergency shelter over the past 24 hours – #CapeStorm.

But the heavy rains that lashed the Cape Town metro on Sunday quickly caused flooding in several areas.

The Bainskloof Pass had to be shut at one point due to mudslides and an uprooted tree.

Cape Town Disaster Management’s Charlotte Powell says their teams have been handing out ”flood kits” to those affected by the heavy showers in informal settlements.

“Various roads across the city have been affected by heavy downpours. No evacuation or emergency shelter has been required.

The Roads and Stormwater Department is clearing roadways and unblocking drains,” says Powell.
