The ANC in the Western Cape says it feels vindicated after Public Protector; Busisiwe Mkhwebane made a finding against Helen Zille over her controversial colonialism tweet.
The Zille report is one of the seven investigations Mkhwebane tabled in Pretoria on Monday.
She told journalists that Zille’s 2017 tweet where she said “colonialism is not only negative” is offensive.
The Premier tweeted in 2017; ”For those claiming that the legacy of colonialism was only negative, they should look at various aspects of South Africa’s development, such as the judiciary and other infrastructure”.
Mkhwebane’s now instructed the Speaker of the Western Cape Legislature to hold Zille to account within the next 30 days.
ANC provincial leader; Khaya Magaxa says they’ve always felt that the Premier’s tweet went too far.
The party’s considering bringing another motion of no confidence against Zille.
But Zille’s spokesperson, Michael Mpofu says the Premier will challenge the finding by taking the matter on “judicial review”.
