With some teachers set to lose their jobs, an educator says this announcement is adding to their already heavy burden.

Around 2 400 teachers are set to lose their jobs.

The provincial education department attributes this to national government budget cuts.

The schools have been ordered to start with Educator Staff Establishments.

This process includes counting the current teachers, to ascertain how many could be retained.

Emile Collison, teacher at a primary school in Muizenberg, says he and his colleagues are already experiencing severe challenges, including overcrowding and a lack of resources.

Collison says this is a disaster.


Well, teacher unions have not ruled out the possibility of taking to the streets, over plans to lay of its affiliate educators.

As of tomorrow, schools will start with the Educator Staff Establishments.
This process includes counting the current teachers, and how many may be retained.
