Heart FM listeners from a few parts of the Cape Town metro are reporting to us that no minibus taxis are operating in their areas, including Delft and Khayelitsha – Taxi Strike.
A group called the Minibus Taxi Industry Task Team has confirmed that all its vehicles will remain idle on Monday.
This is said to be the breakaway group within Santaco, the National Taxi Council, that’s unhappy with the leadership election process, which is expected to happen next week.
Heart FM News has seen a joint statement by taxi associations Cata and Codeta confirming that Monday’s strike has gone ahead.
Western Cape Transport MEC, Donald Grant says the rest of the local public transport sector was prepared for the strike.
Meanwhile; two Golden Arrows buses have been torched in Khayelitsha.
It’s not clear if this was related to the taxi strike.
Officials say luckily, no one was hurt.
