It’s unclear if unions’ call for a stay away will have any major impact in Cape Town.
Trade unions, COSATU and SAFTU, have called for a nationwide shutdown on Wednesday.
SAFTU members will march to the City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Legislature and to Parliament – to voice their frustrations over the rising cost of living.
COSATU will head to PRASA’s offices, as they demand a reliable and sustainable rail system.
But significantly, the taxi industry doesn’t seem to be on board with the plans.
SANTACO’s Makho-sandile Tumana says it’ll be business as usual for them.
“Our operations will be the same. Yes, we understand their frustrations – it’s also affecting us, mostly. But for now, we are challenging the matter with our national government.”
