There’s another blow on the way for already-embattled commuters.
Taxi mother body, Santaco has confirmed that taxi fares are being hiked by between R1 and R3 per journey for local trips.
In some places, the new pricing has already come into effect.
Santaco says that, following the recent major fuel price adjustments, they had no choice but to raise the fares.
Santaco provincial chairperson, Mandla Hermanus says those taxi associations that haven’t implemented the new regime yet, will do so soon.
“The increases will be effective from the 1st of July. We also expect that by the end of July the long distance operators will also increase their fares, but we are not sure by how much, they still need to determine that”.
