Two suspects involved in last week’s foiled cash-in-transit heist, in Khayelitsha, have been re-arrested by the Hawks.
24-year-old, Sihle Mabhongo, and 46-year-old Simphiwe Mzanya, had been arrested following a shootout with police, in which eight of their alleged accomplices had been killed.
The duo were among five people arrested during a joint operation in Town Two on Monday the 5th of August.
Last week, the case against the group was struck off the court roll, after the police brought the suspects to court later than the prescribed period of 48 hours.
The pair face a series of charges, including possession of illegal firearms, explosives, and attempted murder.
They’d appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Hawks spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi, says this isn’t Mzanya’s first run-in with the law.
