Another child killer is off the streets.
And the Vredendal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has been praised for its work…in aiding the conviction and sentence of Daniel Smit.
He’ll spend the remainder of his life in jail for the 2022 murder of Jerobejin van Wyk.
Smit killed and dismembered the child for allegedly stealing fruit on his property.
Now, he’s been sentenced to life imprisonment for premeditated murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, violating a corpse and defeating the ends of justice.
Police commissioner, Thembisile Patekile is among those who’ve welcomed the sentence.
