Taxi mother body, Santaco  in the Western Cape has distanced itself from reports of a planned shutdown over fuel price hikes on Friday.

Various supposed media statements have been going viral on social media.

In many of these, Santaco and political parties are purported to be part of supporting the event.

Several also suggested possible unrest in areas across the province – especially the Cape Town metro.

But there’s no evidence of any actual plans – and clearly, any that do exist, won’t include taxis.

Santaco chairperson, Mandla Hermanus says it will be business as usual for them across the province.

“We regard the story about of shutdown as fake news. The taxi industry isn’t part of that, and we haven’t any communication from any organisation alluding to a national shutdown. Our operators will be on the roads and we urge our commuters to make use of the public transport”.
