A Saldahna Bay teacher has been shot and killed on school grounds by a man said to be her ex-husband, before he turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.
The 42-year-old woman was gunned down in the parking lot of Middlepos Primary School on Wednesday morning.
Her ex-husband’s body was found on a road near the school.
It’s understood the teacher’s two children and other pupils witnessed the shooting.
Western Cape police’s Federick van Wyk says they’re looking into the matter.
“We’ve opened cases of murder and an inquest for further investigation,” says Van Wyk.
Provincial Education MEC, Debbie Schafer says she’s shocked and saddened.
“The school has made the decision to dismiss learners early.
A school psychologist and social worker will be dispatched to provide counselling for those in need of assistance,” says MEC Shafer.
