A group representing South Africans abroad says a recent Constitutional Court ruling will help those living overseas stay connected and involved in the country.
Earlier this week, the ConCourt confirmed that a section of the Citizenship Act, which automatically stripped South Africans of their nationality when they acquired foreign citizenship, is unconstitutional.
The court struck down the provision, declaring it invalid from the date it was introduced in 1995.
It also ruled that those affected are now considered not to have lost their South African citizenship.
Operation Watershed’s Hayley Reichert, based in the UK, welcomes the ruling.
She breaks the misconception around South Africans, living abroad.
