Eskom has announced that Stage 3 rolling blackouts will be implemented from 05h00 until 16h00 on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, the ailing power utility says power cuts will be ramped up to Stage 4 from 16h00 through until 00h00 over the two days.

The country has been experiencing load shedding for the past weeks, due to ongoing generation capacity shortages

Earlier this week, Eskom’s CEO Andre De Ruyter indicated that South Africans would have to deal with rolling blackouts for at least another week.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says lower stages may come into effect for the rest of the week.

“As the generation capacity shortages persist over the next few weeks, loadshedding will continue to be implemented at various stages. Eskom cautions the public that it will still take a few weeks for the power generation system to recover”.
