An Arbitrator has ruled that taxi operators affiliated to Cata and Codeta, both have legal rights to operate on the B97 route.

But, it will take a sometime for the operators to resume services between Bellville and Mbekweni.

This is because the Western Cape Transport Department and the affected associations have requested more clarity about the ruling.

The arbitration process was established in 2021 to determine which taxi association is eligible to operate in the route.

The dispute between CATA and Codeta, had led to violence and multiple murders in the province.

The route has been suspended since the establishment of the arbitration process.

The provincial department says before any further operating licences are issued, a Memorandum of Agreement must be signed between the two associations in respect of the sharing of the route.
