The Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety Department have visited Manenberg in the wake of what appears to be yet another gang war.

MEC Reagan Allen met with community leaders yesterday, following an increase in gang-related shootings apparently stemming from a turf war.

At least five people were killed and several others were wounded between Wednesday and Sunday.

Allen says it’s especially concerning that residents are said to be preventing cops from carrying out their duties.

“I am deeply concerned about reports that there are a few community members who are pelting law enforcement officers with stones when they go into areas to effect arrest or confiscate weapons. This is unacceptable, as it only emboldens gangsters to continue terrorising our communities. If we are serious about stopping gangs and their illegal activities in our areas, we have to work together as one.”
