Rekindling and reestablishing the relationship between the perpetrator and victim of abuse is complex and difficult.
Its particularly difficult if the abuser is someone close to the victim, and reunification sometimes not possible if the abuser is the victims parent.
This comes off the back of a story we covered in the past week of a Blouberg Strand couple who had been arrested for sexually abusing their young children.
Forensic and clinical psychologist Dr Giada Del Fabbro says the abuser has to go through extensive therapy.
She says that in the case of young children they would also have to go through months, if not years of psycho-social interventions.
Del Fabbro says when or if reunification does take place, it will have to be under supervision….
