South Africa will have its first female Chief Justice, come the first of September.
This, as President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointed Mandisa Maya as Chief Justice.
Maya has been serving as the Deputy to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
Zondo’s term comes to an end on the 31st of August.
The Chief Justice is the head of the Constitutional Court, the highest court in the land.
Justice Maya’s appointment follows consultations between the President, leaders of political parties and the Judicial Service Commission.
