Re-offending parolees are a major contributor to the increase in violence in the Western Cape.
That’s according to the provincial government.
This matter was high on the agenda in the provincial legislature yesterday.
MPLs also discussed the impact of gun violence on our communities.
Community Safety MEC, Anroux Marais, claims community members are blaming parolees for many crimes in their areas.
More than 3,000 inmates were released on parole in 2023.
By November 2023, around 4% had re-offended.
