President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on South African men to change their behaviour and end gender-based violence and femicide.

He’d made these comments while addressing government’s Women’s Day event in Pofadder, in the Northern Cape, on Friday.

The 2022 national survey on GBV prevalence in the country, has painted a grim picture of the scourge.

It’s showed that around 7% of women from the age of 18, have been subjected to physical or sexual violence in that period.

This is equivalent to 1.5 million women.

Ramaphosa says it can’t be business as usual.

Ramaphosa says while gender-based violence and femicide is rife, government has made great strides in improving the lives of women here.

South Africa remains a highly unequal country, and black women are on the receiving end of poverty.

While women have rights to vote, to equal work for equal pay, and equality before the law, –

Ramaphosa says a lot still needs to be done though.
