The Special Investigating Unit’s (SIU) probe into the Overstrand municipality’s housing department has been extended, until next month.
The probe was meant to be concluded last month.
It’s looking into corruption and maladministration claims involving housing officials.
The SIU requested an extension for submission after some aspects of the investigation – required additional time.
Mayor Annelie Rabie says she’s looking forward to the finalisation of the probe.
“If there are indications of fraud, corruption or maladministration in any department within my municipality, I would obviously like to deal with it as soon as possible. We would really like to see the report so that we understand where to fix it. If there are mistakes being made by this municipality, if there are issues relative to other players in the housing provisioning value chain – then we also understand that.”
