The Portfolio Committee on Police wants answers.

The issue arose from a viral social media post, in which a women, wanting to lodge a missing persons report, found the Cape Town Central police station closed.

She posted a video on TikTok showing the shut station, with people left waiting outside.

The woman was forced to report her missing son at the Sea Point Police Station.

He’s since been found.

Police stations are legally bound to remain open 24/7.

Portfolio Committee chairperson, Ian Cameron, says he’s awaiting a response from the provincial SAPS.
