
Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale, says the number of police officers killed on and off duty remains a concern for the leadership of the South African Police Service.
This past weekend, two Police officers were murdered in separate incidents in the Mother City.
Mathale’s bodyguard, Warrant Officer Lindela Mraqisa was one of five people who lost their lives in a mass shooting in Gugulethu on Saturday.
The next day, the body of a 29-year-old police officer was found in Mfuleni.
She was raped and murdered.
In another attack in Gugulethu in September, two police officers were shot and wounded while they were driving in New Crossroads.
They were taken to hospital for medical care.
In the same month, a 37 year old cop sustained fatal wounds after he came under attack in Site B in Khayelitsha.
In July, a constable was fatally wounded in Delft during a hijacking and three suspects were arrested.
The Police ministry says maximum resources are being put in place to combat the killing of police officials.
