Cape Town bar and shebeen owners, as well as patrons, are holding talks in a bid to address gender-based violence and femicide.

The Tavern Dialogues are aimed at engaging with residents, especially men, to play an active role to end the scourge.

The dialogues – held on Thursday – are facilitated by the NGO, Act Now.

Police Minister, Bheki Cele, is attending the forum as well.

“In an effort to educate communities on the affliction of gender-based violence and femicide, the police ministry will… engage Cape Town residents on the active role men need to play in ending violence against women.” – Lirandzu Themba, Ministry of Police spokesperson
