There is still no sign of a police station being built in the Khayelitsha community.

Earlier this year, the National Police Ministry announced plans for a new police station in Makhaza.

Construction was meant to start on 1 November.

But there’s no sign of any of this – and the SAPS has not responded to calls for further details.

Western Cape Community Safety and Police Oversight MEC, Reagan Allen, says he’s not surprised.

“This is a matter that has been coming on for approximately eight years. The national Minister of Police has once again failed the residents of this area. This is not surprising as the empty promises and non-delivery is what you get from an incapable national government. I’m saddened that our residents are continuously fed with promises that are not being kept.”

This station is meant to alleviate some of the pressures on other police stations in Khayelitsha.
