Western Cape Police Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, does not have a problem with the City of Cape Town holding its own safety operations.
Patekile’s response comes as the municipality plans to get training from an international consultancy organisation, specialising in extortion and kidnapping.
This is on the back of the City’s demand for an extortion and kidnapping task force for the Mother City.
Patekile confirmed that the South African Police Service was not invited to attend last week’s meeting held with the organisation.
But he revealed that the national police and the City hold weekly meetings focusing on these crimes.
According to Patekile, the different spheres of government can function independently, or interdependently, where needed.
