A limited train service resumed on the Central Line on Tuesday.
Services from Cape Town to Langa via Pinelands and Langa to Bellville via Sarepta are back in operation.
The line was closed in 2019 due to ongoing theft and vandalism, forcing hundreds of thousands of train commuters to find alternative modes of transport.
Illegal occupations further hampered the recovery work on the railway line during the hard lockdown in 2020.
Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, conducted an oversight inspection of the railway line on Tuesday.
“I don’t see why we can’t meet our deadlines, we’ve got to meet them. Today [Tuesday, 26 July 2022], it’s the big day in Cape Town. So, we are very much on track.”
