The Police Portfolio Committee wants answers from police minister, Senzo Mchunu.

It follows damning allegations, made by Kwazulu-Natal’s police commissioner.

Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleges that there’s a crime syndicate that includes Members of Parliament, and some members of the top brass.

Mkhwanazi also claims that Mchunu’s apparent associate, Brown Mogotsi, has been meddling in police affairs.

In March, MPs asked the Minister about Mogotsi.

In response, Mchunu denied knowing him.

Police portfolio committee chairperson, Ian Cameron, wants an independent inquiry to probe the allegations.

Meanwhile, ANC says President Cyril Ramaphosa should be a given space to look into allegations, made by Mkhwanaza.

Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula was questioned on this matter during the party’s media briefing, yesterday.

Mbalula says he’s confident that Ramaphosa will deal with the matter.
