The chairperson of the Police Portfolio Committee wants to know what ever happened to an investigation into claims of possible ties between the police and gangs in the Western Cape.

In 2022, a ruling by Western Cape High Court Judge Daniel Thulare, raised serious concerns about the possible infiltration of SAPS in the Cape, by the 28s gang.

Committee Chairperson Ian Cameron has now written to National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, requesting an update on the internal probe.

There are endless claims and accusations by communities that are plagued by gang violence, that the cops and gangs are in cahoots.

Claims that the SAPS has rubbished in the past, warning that it deals harshly with the men and women in blue, who find themselves on the wrong side of the law, and will continue to do so.

Following Judge Daniel Thulare’s judgement back in 2022, probes had been launched, and the SAPS also looked into these claims

Now, the Police Portfolio Committee’s Ian Cameron wants to know when the internal investigation will be finalised.

In the meantime, violence in various gang-infested communities, continues, and Cameron says serious intervention is needed in the Cape to deal with these crimes.

So for now, we wait, to hear if or when this probe will be finalised and what sanction, if any, has been meted out on dirty cops.
