The man accused of raping and murdering eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk has pleaded not guilty.
Mohydien Pangaker revealed this on the first day of his murder trial in the Western Cape High Court, on Wednesday.
The 56-year-old is facing 27 charges including murder, kidnapping, rape, and desecration of a corpse.
Some of them date back to his previous convictions.
The body of the young Tazne was found in a storm water drain, outside Worcester, in February 2020.
The State showed CCTV footage taken from a petrol station on the N1, where a man and a little girl are seen walking together.
The first witness, Tazne’s father, Terence Manuel, told the court that Pangaker was last seen with his daughter.
The state intends to call 90 witnesses.
