The Overberg District Municipality says it is preparing for a busy fire season.
The municipality launched its Fire Season Readiness Plan in Bredasdorp this week.
Authorities are also continuing engagements with farmers and landowners to facilitate effective awareness of fires in the region.
The municipality together with Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association often engage with the land owners to ensure that equipment is in good working order.
Head of emergency services, Reinard Geldenhuys says they’re also offering tips about dealing with veldfires.
“They have prepared the landowners, done training to ensure that the landowners are prepared. That’s how we ensure that the landowners are ready and prepared for the fire season. They have shown their readiness already. Secondly, as far as communities concern, we are busy with fire awareness projects in some of the communities to make they are aware of the fires”.
