Members of the opposition in the City of Cape Town have reacted to news about MayCo member, Zahid Badroodien, temporarily having stepped down.

The Water and Sanitation Mayoral Committee (MayCo) Member’s accused of tampering with electricity meters at a house he owns.

In a statement, he claims to have been alerted to the alleged tampering two days after moving into the house.

He says he had no prior knowledge and took immediate steps.

Badroodien’s now facing a disciplinary hearing.

The ANC’s Banele Majingo says they’re looking forward to the finalisation of the process.

The EFF’s Ntsikelelo Tyandela believes he must be fired.

And the Good Party’s Suzette Little says they don’t expect any preferential treatment to be given to Badroodien.
