It’s unclear exactly how long motorists will continue to be affected on the N1, near Sable Road.

There has been heavy congestion, affecting the N1 inbound and outbound, after weeks of continuous rain.

Certain lanes have had to be closed due to large pools of water on the roadway.

These closures are near the junction where traffic from the N7 southbound and other routes join the N1.

The Western Cape Infrastructure department, since, has deployed engineering teams to find alternative ways to improve storm water drainage there.

But, the department cannot predict when the lanes will be reopened.

Infrastructure MEC Tertius Simmers urges motorists and road users to travel carefully in the meantime.
