The Bitou municipality is taking steps, following a shark incident in Plettenberg Bay.
Thirty-nine-year-old Kimon Bisogno, from Observatory, died after being bitten by a shark at Central Beach on Sunday.
Known as “Kiki” — she and her partner are well-known pizza and pasta chefs in that community.
The Bitou Municipality has since closed several Central Beach and other nearby beaches.
Spokesperson for the municipality, Andile Namntu, says there have been unusually high levels of shark activity in the area this year.
He says the Bitou Council is now looking into research on the matter.
“This will enable us to learn more about this kind of shark activities, and assist us to plan better for any incident that could happen. Also, the council established the shark committee. This committee will also assist us in terms of developing strategies and plans.”
